The other day was was reading a news article about a small lake near the westgate brdige that had turned pink. This pinkness in the water is caused by an algal bloom that is triving in the water. algal bloom colours can range from purple, pink, red and green.

this particular algal bloom at the park was pink.

here are two photos from my flickr page.

The hypocrisy of the cave clan.

the cave clan started in the 80’s when 3 guys went down a drain. nothing exciting about it really. Over the last couple of decades the cave clan have gathered in members and have ventured into exploring abandoned buildings rather than just drains. I have never been a member of the cave clan and nor will I be after the events of the past year or so.

It all started off for me when I began to use my camera and take photos after not using it for a while. My interest was abandoned buildings and then onto drains. I have never been one for joining a group or one for rules. That meant the cave clan wasn’t for me, as they have rules about what photos you can post and what information you can share with your friends about new abandoned buildings. If I have information about an abandoned building that I know a friend doesn’t know about I’d share it. If I were in the cave clan I wouldn’t be allowed to share said information with them. that to me is just wrong and reminds me of a cult that tries to split the ‘URBEX’ community apart for their own ego.

Having said that, I do appreciate the Cave clans dedication to preserving abandoned buildings from tagging and graff. That alone should not be a reason to withhold information from other non CC explorers who you trust who also would like to goto these places and photograph them. I don’t understand that rule,  But I am not one for rules. For me it just seems a little bit elitist and egotistical.

The hypocrisy that I am talking about is their stance with graffiti in drains. This is a quote from the CC Wikipedia page.

“The Cave Clan has long officially distanced itself from graffiti, despite the historical practice of discrete tagging as a historical documentation practice.”

Graffiti is graffiti. it doesn’t matter how big the tag is or where it’s done. it’s still graffiti.
Is tagging an entire wall of a drain in big letters considered discrete?

In my opinion I am not convinced that it’s discrete and a blatant message telling others that venture down the drains that they rule the drain. But that’s just my opinion. No one has claim to the drain and should tell others what to do down there. Only the government has that power and the water authorities.

The drains that I have explored in Melbourne (where the cave clan started) are littered with tags and graffiti from CC members. how can one group be so opposed to graffiti and then tag and graff the drains they are protecting against graffiti artists?

discrete.

Back home :-(

Post holiday depression set in soon after i arrived back in Melbourne. It has stayed with me for a long long time. Yes this is going to be one of those posts where people complain about not being back on holiday and not appreciating what they have. Sure i can go on and on about all the friends i am seeing after 5 months of holidays, but that’s no comfort. I miss Europe and the people there really miss Prague and the great time I had there.

With that said i have been doing NOTHING since back at home. sleeping 6 hours a day, playing playstation 3, and going out taking photos. The inspiration for photos has stopped and the dream of moving to Europe take over my thoughts. With lack of things going on in my life I have left things slip. my blog, flickr, and tumblr. All these things have slipped on the wayside.

But things are changing Big things are happening.

Here’s a few photos that I have done with the help of friends. Photos are the only thing keeping me sane at the moment.

Music and light painting

Ever listen to a song that you havent heard in ages and then all the memories pop back into your head?

As I was plodding along with the music on shuffle I heard a song that I haven’t heard in a while.

Well the first thought that popped into my head was me in my underwear on a fucking hot summers night welding and fitting lights to all sorts of contraptions till the early hours of the morning.

When I had finished welding and modifying the LED lights that i bought it was onto the backyard and time to do some light painting.  I spent a good few hours just having the album on repeat and loud enough that it can be heard in the yard.

There were lots of photos taken that night and lots more over the course of time. some were done in the back of my place, some in drains and in abandoned buildings.

John Part 2.

I did imply in JOHN PART 1 that there will be a part two. THE WAIT is over. you can sleep assured that it has arrived!

I can hear the cheers and the fireworks going off.

party two is really boring. just photos and a stupid opening. YAY!!!!!

OMG it’s a canteen. too bad it’s not like the one in star wars. I don’t think star trek had a really cool canteen in it.

When we went back the second time john was in the process of getting demolished. my beloved coffee table was no more.

John Part 1.

this place out in a country town was BIG. it’s pretty much all demolished now. We were glad to have gone there while it was still in the process of getting torn down. It was a big factory with two main warehouses, a manufacturing area, canteen, HUGE office block, a guard-house and other smaller buildings in the land.

In one of the smaller buildings that i was going to bypass the first time I visited (trespassed) john had personal records from when the company first started. You could spend hours in there reading all the employee records and come of the questions that people got asked when starting a new job.

john cont2

in the medical offices there was still records of people and what they were treated for at John.

IMG_8124

This is a concern as they company just left them there and didn’t give a shit about peoples personal information.

In one of the tea rooms some of the guys must have had a blast on a fishing trip as they posted photos of it all over the walls. they caught some really big fish but most of the photos consisted of people with beers in their hands and smiles on their face.
forgotten memories
That wall had been half torn down the second time I went to John.

The Anonymous Motel.

This anonymous Motel isn’t that anonymous anymore. That’s WLGS named it when we  heard about this amazing yet tacky motel outside of Melbourne. I was heading down that way to visit a friend for the day. I had a look on Google to see if there’s anything abandoned that I could go out and take photos of whilst I’m over that way. This was one of the sites that we found.

TAM 3

TAM 2

The stained glass windows were perfect! they weren’t broken that much and no graff on them. SWEET!!!!!

TAM 6

TAM 1

It really was an ugly place but it did have great charm to it from being so tacky that it was fun to photograph.

TAM 5

About 2-3 months after we posted these with no identifying marks to the building, the name of it or where it is one person went to it and posted an outside photo of it and called the album on flickr y the name of the motel. it soon became trashed and the windows were spray painted over. It wasn’t too long before this place was trashed and wrecked. People are dumb.

UNICEF

WLGS had this site on our target for a long time. we got lazy and there was always next week to do it. this happened too often when we tried to organise a meet up to explore this building. A couple of us decided to go and explore ‘unicef’ before it got trashed by vandals and the graffers. This was one of the riskier sites that we had been to. It was situated on a live site. A live site for those that don’t know is a site that is still worked on or occupied by people or workers.

There were people working in the factory and driving forklifts just 20 meters away from the building. In order to get to the building we had to jump a fence that was on a main street. As we jumped the fence and avoided the people working on the site we made our way into the building.

It was just what we had imagined and more.

The beauty of the peeling paint and the natural decay is a really awesome site to see.

Revolving doors!!!!!

There was/ still is old computers and typewriters on one of the rooms.

IMG_1094

I hope to visit this place when i get back but i doubt that it’s going to be the same. There have been signs of vandalism there as people don’t know how to keep a location a secret.

Heather

This place is one of the best buildings that WLGS have been to in my opinion . It’s a massive place with a couple of levels to it. The hard thing to come to terms is that it hasn’t been trashed or vandalised. heather is pretty hard to get into if you don’t know where to enter. So i guessing the difficulty of getting in and the location which is north (very north) are the reasons that the walls aren’t graffed over and everything smashed on the inside.

As you enter this beast of a building one of the first things you see is this. At that point you know it’s going to be a great explore!

On one of the lower levels you see this mechanical instrument that Looks like something out of a Sci-fi movie.

up on the higher level of this structure we saw this beast of a machine that was a production line of the factory.

Down by the train yards

This particular train yard has LOTS of freight trains that have been sitting on the tracks rusting away over the years. It was about a 5 minuet walk from my house but I hadn’t explored it in the 1 and a half years that I have lived here, Till one day when on a mission with mariarchi we decided to go and take photos of the rusting trains and the offices that were then.

The following photo is a random teddy bear that we spotted in one of the freight trains.
